Cherie Friedman
Middle School Director
Cherie comes to SAA from Kadima Day School in West Hills, CA, where she has held a variety of teaching and leadership roles for the past twelve years, including K-8th grade Principal since 2022 and Associate Director/Principal from 2018-2022. Prior to her time at Kadima, Cherie was a teacher at Temple Judea and Stephen Wise. She knows the Los Angeles Jewish day school landscape well! In 2021, Cherie received the prestigious Milken Educator Award and in 2019 she received American Jewish University's Louise Rothman Outstanding Educator Award.
Cherie is originally from South Africa and received her Bachelor's in Education from the University of Cape Town. Later in life, she attended American Jewish University, where she obtained her Master's in Education with a concentration in Leadership.
Cherie has diverse experience in day school settings, and is highly acquainted with the power of a dual, integrated curriculum. Cherie shares, "I am a learner, a conveyer of knowledge, and a leader. The integration of these three roles best defines my beliefs. I am a proponent of integrated learning. I strive to provide a meaningful, fulfilling, and tangible learning experience that does not stop in the classroom but spills over into everyday lives. Education should focus on helping students establish connections between what they are learning in school and their own lives. Curriculum should draw on the learners’ unique interests and experiences, while providing meaningful learning opportunities." This is at the core of her educational philosophy.

About Sinai Akiba Academy
Sinai Akiba Academy is a private Jewish day school in Los Angeles, serving students in Early Childhood through Grade 8. We also offer a variety of parenting classes and programs for children through our Parenting Center. A Sinai Temple school.
